“A Compas Flamenco” is a socio-cultural and artistic project that aims to educate children who come from families with low incomes and social problems through flamenco dance. It is a project created and run by Karelia Cadavid.
The work we have done in the neighborhood “The Sites” in Havana is developing life in the community, improves social cohesion and generates the socio- cultural development of the area and surrounding municipalities.
We teach values such as solidarity, security, fairness, common welfare and social integration. Our aim is to overcome the lack of financial and material resources of the inhabitants providing the necessary means for their learning and development through art. The action is completely non-profit, serving children from 3 years old. We believe that teaching dance since childhood develops imagination and teaches the teamwork. Through art education we increase the creativity and develop psychomotor skills of our kids that become more sociable and have good self-esteem.
We are not academic, but traditional project, which does not grant degrees but prepares the children for life and inserts them into society through the high quality flamenco taught by the greatest contemporary flamenco artists that collaborate with us.
